Commissioned Artwork
This commissioned work found its place near Graz!
From my current series of works, covert and discovered history, the client chose an image, cadh 05 - Portrait of Alexios, which I individually adapted.
It was more difficult than expected to retouch the existing image to the desired format. Many small steps were necessary to bring the work to the area of 200 × 180 cm. After this work, color sketches were made, experimented with colors and harmonies in order to have a guide in the revision process that you stick to. In the existing picture, dark tones were specifically worked out in the mosaic and contrasted with light tones. Gold tones were finely composed on the mosaic. This is where the idea arose to add the transformation (transmutation) optically to the work. The art of gold synthesis seemed to be able to illustrate the mosaic picture of Alexios and thus give it new splendor. To liquefy colors, to create transitions, to show a spectrum that is extraordinary and coherent in combination. I made many fragmentary sketches and incorporated them into the overall composition.
Thank you for this beautiful order!
